I like to think that I know a good deal about
the Harry Potter story and have enough knowledge of the books to
create theories, articles and suggestions without guilt. However, when you
have thousands of people read your article or suggestion, you find out that
you may not know everything. Hence, I will start this article by admitting
that I am more than a little confused on the adjustments created by Warner
Bros for the headstone mistake for Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Take a look at the old
and new version of the headstone below and let me know what YOU think.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Headstone
Spotter earlier this summer, my first impression
of the headstone image when it first appeared was that the name 'Tom Marvolo
Riddle' should not be anywhere on the grave. One, I am almost positive that
this name was never on the headstone from the book and, if it is suppose
to be Voldemort's father, Tom Riddle, we should definitely expect that his
middle name wasn't Marvolo. Marvolo was the name given to Voldemort by his
mother, just after his birth at the orphanage. The father, Tom Riddle, never
knew of the unborn child's full name, nor did the rest of the muggle world.
So why would Warner Bros try to place his full name on the headstone? Error!
This was the first mistake that I thought would be fixed, but the updated
version still features the full muggle-name of Lord Voldemort. What? [*updated: I am an idiot, they pulled out the middle name Marvolo to show that this headstone was great parents and father of Lord Voldemort. Thanks to 'Josh'.] Did
I just happen to miss a detail in the book that stated his name was on the
grave? [this is where you help me out]
The second error on the first version of the headstone is the dates presented
for Tom Riddle and Tom Marvolo Riddle. According to Potter communities,
Tom Marvolo Riddle, aka Lord Voldemort, was born on December 31, 1926 [or
1927 if he caught New Years], not 1915 as shown in the image. The second
error on the dates presented on the gravestone is the year of death for
Tom Riddle [and wife]. While the picture says 1943, the books hint that
the year was more near 1945. A small error, but an error just the same.
So, we would expect the years on the headstone to be changed as well; but
they don't seem to be! [I think I must be blind... help me out here]
'Potterfan', our number one Harry Potter source at the moment,
sent us over the 'corrected' version of the Goblet of Fire headstone,
but I can't see any differences. The first image below is the old version
and the second image is the new.

A Grave Mistake

Gravestone repaired?
I figured that Warner Bros would serve up a quick
solution by changing a couple of dates and the removal of 'Tom Marvolo Riddle'.
However, everything looks [to me] to be exactly the same. Come on Potter
community, help me out on this one. 'Potterfan', if this is a joke....
Updated: I completely missed the fact that 'Marvolo' was pulled out of the name on the bottom, making it the name of Tom Riddle's father. However, the dates do still seem to be wrong; but these are tiny errors compared to the one recently fixed.
