According to The
Hollywood Reporter, Shaun of the Dead star and co-writer,
Simon Pegg, has been asked to play the role of an ally to Special Agent
Ethan Hunt (Cruise), in Paramount's Mission
: Impossible 3.

M:I:3 is being directed by J.J Abrams and the impressive cast list
includes, Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne,
Billy Crudup, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell and
Maggie Q.
Also joining the cast is former NCIS star Sasha Alexander, who
is better known as Special Agent Caitlin "Kate" Todd in the hit series.
Although rumoured to be making a cameo in the film
as the new boss of the troupe, Val Kilmer will not be joining the cast of
M:I:3. An insider revealed that he was never approached.
Mission: Impossible 3 comes to theatres on May 5th, 2006.
