Holy hell! It seems that we have finally been alerted
to our first early review for the finished version of DOOM.
If you have been keeping up with our updates on DOOM, then you
most likely know that we are extremely excited about the shoot-'em-up style
film and can't wait to check out all the first-person-shooter goodness.
However, is the film good or what?
DOOM Review Positive
The good people over at AICN
have gotten the first review for DOOM from a guy, 'Sir Lancelot',
who was lucky enough to attend an early screening from Universal. Though
he is not exactly familiar with the video game par se, he does admit to
be an avid gamer. So, what does he have to say about DOOM? Well,
it is definitely positive!
There's some good weaponry here, but
again it doesn't go over the top. When we get to see The Rock wield an advanced
weapon it's memorable. There are great fight scenes and the element of surprise
is always fresh. The famous FPS scene that was unveiled at Comicon is very
intense indeed, definitely worth the wait because fans will be cheering
it throughout.
All in all this is a superior genre title and
I reckon Universal has a hit on its hands. It should be more aggressive
with the marketing campaign. NOW is the time to pepper the networks with
TV spots and ramp things up. The movie is slated for release on Oct 21 and
goes against counter-programmers like Shopgirl, Dreamer and North Country.
Doom will clear up that weekend and the ending leaves plenty of opportunity
for a sequel. Lock and load!!
Yes!!! I am hoping that DOOM is just a
beginning to the many 'smaller' fall/winter films that may actually out-due
the supposed blockbusters we were expecting to have this summer.
