I am going to be slightly cautious with this article,
but it does at least seem like Daniel Craig, last seen in Layer
Cake, is on the top of a very short list when it comes
to who will be the next Bond. I know, I know, this has to be the millionth
casting rumor to spread across the web, but the latest source is at least
somewhat legit.
Daniel Craig for Casino Royale?
According to TheHollywoodReporter,
British actor Daniel Craig might be holding the winning hand in the James
Bond/Casino Royale sweepstakes. Now, I can only assume that this
news can only come as a shock considering the competition that Craig was
up against for the pivotal role, but the spy agency is looking at this guy
under a microscope. Facing off with actors that have included Orlando Bloom,
Clive Owen and Goran Visnjic, who would of known that the blonde hair would
have won Sony over.
Most handicappers have had Craig, star of this summer's Layer Cake,
on the shortlist for some time, and Tuesday, London's Daily Mail
upped the ante by reporting that Craig will indeed fill the shoes of the
mythic Agent 007. Separately, sources close to the project say that the
actor is close to being officially tapped as the new Bond.
Sony Pictures, who have continued to keep the new
Bond an explosive top secret, had this to say about the Daniel Craig rumors:
"We are not commenting on rumors. When we have an announcement to make,
we will let you know." In May, Craig addressed the Bond scuttlebutt
during an interview with online movie news Web site IGN FilmForce. "There's
a lot of rumors floating around," he said. "It's not a bad position
to be in. If even half of them or a third of them are true, it's not a bad
position to be in."
Sony Pictures has scheduled Casino Royale to go before cameras
in early 2006 under Martin Campbell's direction.
