According to Variety,
the sixth instalment of Rocky (Which we reported last week, Sylvester
Stallone will write, direct and star in) is looking to cast former heavyweight
champion Roy Jones Jr to co-star as heavyweight champ Mason "The Line" Dixon,
opposite Stallone's Rocky Balboa, and Burt Young's 'Paulie'.
Jones vs Tarver
However, BoxingTalk.net
reports that light heavyweight king Antonio Tarver may be set to fill the
nemesis role.
"Moments ago light heavyweight king Antonio Tarver informed Boxingtalk.com
that his representatives are in the final stages of negotiations for a deal
that would land Tarver the role of Mason Dixon in the eagerly anticipated
Rocky 6, which begins filming shortly. Sylvester Stallone will
play Rocky Balboa, and Tarver will co-star as heavyweight champion Mason
Dixon."
Several reports have stated that the film, Rocky
Balboa, will be co-produced/financed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Columbia
Pictures and Revolution Studios and will be distributed by Columbia Pictures.
In the new instalment, Rocky, lonely and retired in Philadelphia, is approached to fight a match with reigning heavyweight champ Mason "The Line" Dixon, and soon his comeback ignites a media firestorm.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in December in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
