It looks like our movie market has evolved into
one filled with female heroes. With Aeon
Flux and Underworld:
Evolution closing out the year, we already have talks
for a Wonder Woman from Whedon and now Magdalena from
Platinum Studios.
Magdalena
According to Variety,
Platinum Studios chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg has teamed with Gale
Anne Hurd and her Valhalla Motion Pictures to produce Magdalena,
a faith-based feature based on a Top Cow comicbook.
Kevin Taft will adapt the story about a girl named Patience who discovers
she is part of a lineage of female warriors descended from Mary Magdalene.
Thanks to her lineage, it becomes Patience's responsibility to save the
world from a supernatural evil.
When asked about the story, Gale Anne Hurd responded:
Magdalena is exactly the kind of project we love, a strong female lead
character, a story with rich mythology and compelling characters. The religious
overtone adds a new dimension to the adventure story.
Hurd already has some fimiliararity with action
films and female heroes by having produced both Terminator and
the upcoming adaptation Aeon Flux.
Magdalena will be a film somewhat similar to the religious gist of Constantine,
but replace Keanu Reeves with a hottie in tight leather.
