The Legend of Zorro
Even though Saw
II was able to fully carry the horror genre to box office
gold, The Legend
of Zorro found success elsewhere; which was surprisingly
not in California.
Saw II Rocks International Box Office
According to Variety,
dominated the offshore box office with $27 million earned in 50 foreign
territories.
The Legend of Zorro, handled overseas by Sony in partnership with
Spyglass, led in 40 markets as it opened in about 90% of the world day-and-date
with the Stateside launch. International performance of the sequel -- aimed
squarely at family audiences -- looks to have even more legs than the original,
which opened overseas at a square $22 million.
Thanks to the impressive opening weekend, The Legend of Zorro is
currently in the lead for largest foreign debut this fall.
Though this is a nice title to have for Columbia Pictures, expect Warner
Bros' Harry Potter
and the Goblet of Fire to crash through the fall box office
[domestic/international] and become the new reigning king; or should I say
wizard?
