Though a lot of humor can be found in a film about
Trekkie-style Star Wars fans, The Weinstein Company may be taking
a slightly different road. According to Variety,
movie studio is closing a deal to preemptively acquire the comedy pic Fan
Boys, based on a screenplay by Adam F. Goldberg and Ernest Cline.
The movie follows a group of young, hardcore Star Wars fans from
the Midwest determined to take their dying friend to Skywalker Ranch so
that he can see the seminal sci-fi pic in its perfect setting before he
dies. Didn't this really happen?
Fan Boys will begin filming next February with Kyle Mann taking
a seat in the director's chair. The film will be produced by the Trigger
Street label's Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, Evan Astrowsky and Matthew Perniciaro.
