Saw 2
With the domestic box office victory over The
Legend of Zorro last weekend, Saw
II director Darren Lynn Bousman has found a whole new
sense of appreciation from Dimension Films.

Saw II was able to gross $36 million in
box office receipts in its opening four days; a number that has outpaced
that original Saw. With this type of franchise success, it was only a matter
of time before other studios caught interest of Darrenn Lynn Bousman.
Though Darren created Saw II under studio Lions Gate Films, Dimension
wants him anyway. According to Variety,
Dimension Films has set a two-picture deal with the Saw II director
that will include his next film. Both movies will be produced under the
banner of Twisted Pictures principals Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Gregg Hoffman,
who produced and financed both of the Saw films.
What can we expect from Darren under Dimension Films? Nobody knows for sure;
not even Bob Weinstein. The first order of business will be to find a proper
genre vehicle for Bousman to work under. Obviously, with the success of
the Saw films, you would assume horror/thriller would quickly come
to mind.
"This is the most surreal thing, to have a hit movie and be courted by the
Weinsteins," Bousman said. "I wrote 'The Desperate' because I was feeling
that way, and thought that the darkest, most violent movie I could write
might get me noticed. It sparked the seed that became Saw II."
