An American Haunting
Ever since we were greeted to the first trailer
for An American
Haunting we have been waiting anxiously for any further
updates for the film.
Based on a true story [aren't all films now a days?], Haunting
almost looks too real; but not in that I - am - going - to - get - motion
- sickness - in - a - Blair - Witch sort of way. Whew!
American Haunting Review
The good people over at AICN
have received an early report for the upcoming horror An American Haunting.
Like just about every horror film that comes out, moviegoers are going to
go either way on this one. However, the fact that this film takes a look
at this non-fiction poltergeist and tells us the story of its growth in
violence and 'disturbance' is truly chilling.
Now, I am obsessed with the tale of the Bell Witch. If you haven't read about it, google it. Scary stuff. A bizarre entity invaded the lives of a family in Tennessee in the late 1800's. One man died by the hand of the spirit, and he is the only case in the history of U.S. law to be recognized as having been killed by supernatural events.
I liked, didn't love, but liked the picture, a lot.
Technically, An American Haunting is very well made. Beautiful photography (shot in Romania), excellent acting from the whole cast: Especially Donald Sutherland who seems to be having a lot of fun, and newcomer Rachel Hurd-Wood, who plays the daughter afflicted most by the specter.
Is American Haunting scary? Yes. Definitely.
The movie has very few special effects, with no little girls with long black hair, no people crawling on the ceiling, no white faced little boy. It's neither a remake nor a ripoff of an Asian horror movie. That's like an action movie with no wire-fu. Very nice.
The review follows with a nice conclusion and explains
that An American Haunting has very little blood and gore; which
may bother some avid horror fans. However, if you are one of those people
who truly digs ghost stories, An American Haunting may be right
up your alley.
If you have yet to do so, be sure to check out the trailer.
An American Haunting may have a limited release to theatres on
January 1, 2006 [undecided].
