Just Friends
Nothing makes me more gitty than to hear that Ryan Reynolds has a new comedy coming our way. However, truth be told, the guy's acting career in film hasn't been top notch. Actually, scratch that. The films that Ryan Reynolds plays in are just not good enough for, well, Ryan Reynolds. However, being the comedic genius that he is, Reynolds always seems to shine in any role he is placed. His last film, Waiting, was 'ehh', so hopefully he can make it up with his upcoming comedy Just Friends.
Just Friends Review
The good people over at AICN have recently received an early review for the upcoming Ryan Reynolds comedy Just Friends. Though the review is mixed, the writer,
Massawyrm, hits the nail smack on the head when it comes to appreciating Ryan Reynolds.
Despite how cheesy this movie gets, despite the clichés it plays around with, despite everything in this movie that should make it fall flat, it actually proves to be an enjoyable 96 minutes. And it does so for two reasons – the cast assembled for it and its unique comedic style.
Just Friends is of course a Ryan Reynolds vehicle, and the movie lives and breathes with his performance. And while I don’t think he is nearly as sharp as he can be, he is actually pretty freaking good. As Chris, the overweight kid in high school in love with his best (slutty) friend, who’s grown up, slimmed down and become a master ladies man, he really sells it.
All in all, this isn’t a film I can recommend, except to say that it will make you laugh. It’s got this “Meet the Parents” vibe to it, and I swear to god, if Ben Stiller were ten years younger, he would have been cast in this. It’s funny, but forgettable.
I guess I should stick with watching my copies of the Two Guys and a Girl DVDs until Reynolds can finally find a film that suits him. Is that the Flash I hear calling?
Just Friends comes to theatres on November 23rd.
