New York Times
Loews moviegoers rejoice! The popular theater chain has unveiled plans to offer a new (and free) movie magazine written and distributed by the New York Times.
NY Times Goes OnMovies
The magazine, titled “OnMovies,” will be released 18 times per year and dispersed in eight highly populated cities beginning Dec. 16.
The magazine will be comprised mainly of reviews and other tidbits. To help pay the tab, the magazine will be half advertisements and half articles. But the NY Times insists it will follow in the vein of last summers “MarketPlace Weekly”—the New York Times Co.’s most recent successful free publication.
Initially, "OnMovies" will be distributed to 1.25 million moviegoers at select Loews Cineplex Theatres in the following major metropolitan areas: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Washington, D.C., Dallas and Seattle.
Every issue of "OnMovies" will contain insightful news articles and columns such as:
- The Cover -- a main article on the biggest or most important movie(s) opening by Times journalists like A.O. Scott, Manohla Dargis, David Kehr, Charles McGrath, Laura Holson and Lola Ogunnaike.
- Additional feature articles on select new movies.
- On The Record -- excerpts from Times film reviews of a film director featured on the cover of a current issue of "OnMovies."
- The Top Ten -- Capsule reviews by Times critics of the biggest-grossing films.
- Quote/Unquote -- comments from stars, filmmakers and other Hollywood movers and shakers about important issues in the film industry.
- Home Theater -- Highlights of notable DVD releases of theatrical films, including capsule reviews by Times critics.
- Reality Show -- a brief story on a current documentary.
- Openings -- short previews of upcoming films.
- Look Out For... -- a spotlight on an up-and-coming actor, writer or filmmaker in a soon to be released film.
- Family Room -- a short report on a family-oriented film in current release.
- Rear Window -- a closing feature article - often a quiz - about current movies or film history.
