The film retains much of the original cast including Adam Pascal as tormented rock singer Roger Davis who is searching to write one last great song before his body is overcome by the ravages of AIDS, Anthony Rapp as struggling film maker Mark Cohen, Tony Award-winner Wilson Jermaine Heredia as a loveable transvestite street musician named Angel, Jesse L. Martin ("Law & Order") as expatriate professor Tom Collins, Idina Menzel as performance artist Maureen Johnson, and Taye Diggs ("Chicago") as misguided entrepreneur Benjamin Coffin III.
“It’s an incredible sense of closure that I’ve been given, to have originated it and then come back ten years later,” says Pascal of his return to "Rent."
New members to the cast are Rosario Dawson as heroine addict love interest Mimi Marquez and Tracie Thoms as cause-attorney Joanne Jefferson.

Based on the Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical by the late Jonathan Larson, the story follows a year in the life of a group of Bohemians in the East Village of New York City as they struggle to live and love under the shadow of AIDS.
"I think the movie captures what it feels like to be young in New York and have friends around who are truly your family," explains Pascal. "People accept the fear and struggle of living here because when you have that, it's worth it."
Julie Larson, sister of the late writer-composer, serves as a co-producer on the film which is presented by Revolution Studios in association with 1492 Pictures and is a Tribeca Production.
Rent comes to theatres on November 23rd.
