Starz! will feature a nine-minute clip from The Chronicles of Narnia
Wherever you are heading on Thanksgiving day, you better make sure that place has a subscription to the television network Starz! By teaming up with both Disney and Columbia Pictures, Starz! has all the hottest previews for this coming holiday.
Starz! Previews Narnia, Rent, Cars
According to Variety,
Starz! has set up a deal with the studios that will allow them to showcase a forty-five second teaser trailer for Cars, an extended nine-minute clip for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, plus exclusive clips from the upcoming Broadway adaptation Rent. And, just when it seemed like the television network couldn't be offering any more, Starz! will also feature an exclusive interview with the movie's principals, Rosario Dawson and Adam Pascal, who talk about the filming of the scene previewed, which includes a musical number.
The Cars sneak peek comes alongside the nine-minute exclusive scene that Disney and co-producer Walden Media have carved out of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The Narnia clip will play across Starz! and its sister networks Kids & Family and Encore.
Stephan Shelanski, senior VP of program acquisitions for the Starz! Entertainment Group, had this to say about their exclusive content:
"We're deliberately trying to go beyond the formulaic, predictable half-hour behind-the-scenes documentaries that show up on other networks."
Shelanski said Disney and Columbia were eager to provide Starz! with exclusive scenes even though its average audience is much smaller than that of a broadcast net or an ad-supported cablercabler like USA and TNT. The reason: "All of the studies we've done," he said, "show that our audience consists of avid moviegoers who also rent more movie DVDs and watch more movies on television than the average TV viewer."
Sounds like a targeted audience to us. However, does Starz! have to do any type of kickback for the exclusive content?
According to Shelanski, the quid pro quo for getting fresh clips of forthcoming blockbusters is that Starz! occasionally "has to help the studio to get the word out on smaller films."
