Unlikely pair Tim Burton and Jim Carrey are in early negotiations for Paramount Picture’s “Believe It or Not.” The film is loosely based on Robert Ripley, a San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist for the turned adventure-seeking traveler in search of the world’s most bizarre commodities which he chronicled for his “Ripley’s: Believe It Or Not!” publication. Longtime Burton producer Ricahrd Zanuck is in talks to produce as are Jim Jacks and Sean Daniel of Alphaville.

Screenwriters Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, who also wrote Burton’s 1992 film “Ed Wood” reportedly begin the story with an adult Ripley already well into his travels. Several sequels are promised if a hit is acquired.
Paramount first unveiled the story several months ago and spectators assumed frequent Burton buddy Johnny Depp would be cast in the lead. Carrey’s rep announced earlier this week his plans to star.
Production is planned for an October 2006 start date and a 2007 release.
