Ramona Quimby Goes to Film
According to Variety, Fox 2000 has won approval from children's book author Beverly Cleary to develop a film based on her classic character Ramona Quimby.
Though this seems like a new idea to Fox 2000, Beverly Cleary has mentioned that she has been asked repeatedly by children on when she would finally have a movie or two about her novel characters.
"So many kids have asked me, 'When's a Ramona movie coming out?' " Cleary said in a statement. "I'm so glad there's finally going to be one! I look forward to seeing it."
Beverly Clearly has been writing children's novel for some time with her first book, Henry Huggins, published in 1950.
The Ramona Quimby character first appeared as the little sister in 1955's Beezus and Ramona, and soon emerged as Cleary's most popular creation, getting top billing in seven more titles.
In honor of Cleary's 90th birthday April 12, HarperCollins plans to reissue all of the author's books, starting with the Ramona series, next summer. This release should also help draw more attention to the upcoming adaptation(s).
