Though we have been promoting the heck out of The Weinstein Company animated film Hoodwinked!, we still admit that we saw this CG animation being a hit or miss. For one, a lot of moviegoers seem to be over films that base their humor on one giant parody and the graphics to Hoodwinked! are not up to the standard being set by films such as Shrek 2 or Over the Hedge.

But I guess our fears were unfounded, as the first early review we have encountered for Hoodwinked! is more than positive.

Hoodwinked! Movie Review

The good people over at a newly-polished-up LatinoReview have recently posted an early review for Hoodwinked! and they claim that the animation is the cat's pajamas. Check out a couple snippets below:

It all starts at the end – Red walks into her Granny’s house and The Wolf is in her bed. But, what you think is all thrown out the door, because when The Wolf goes after Red, Granny jumps out of the closet, wrapped up in rope, and The Woodsman, voiced by Jim Belushi, jumps through the window. Wait, Granny’s alive? So what went on here? Before anything else can happen, the police show up to investigate what happened.

So what’s the real crime here – all the recipes in the forest have been stolen, except for Granny’s. Now, all four of them are suspects – but again, it’s not what you think.

Some of the script could have been a little funnier, but it was defiantly good enough for the kids and adults. And the voices really worked; I’m sure there was a lot of adlibbing in the booths, while the actors were recording that made it into the film. A few times, the jokes got a little stale, but there are enough stabs and dumb one-liners to keep the pace up.The film is about an hour and 20 minutes, but it doesn’t really feel like it’s that long; the story really flows. I would definitely recommend this film for the whole family!

LatinoReview scores the film with an A- and gives it an 'Almost Perfect'. Not bad for a first review! Check out the whole review for Hoodwinked! over at LatinoReview.

Hoodwinked! comes to theatres on December 23rd.
