Fun with Dick and Jane
Just in case you haven't noticed, the Jim Carrey comedy Fun with Dick & Jane has already been released to theatres this Wednesday. Unfortunately the film was so under-promoted on television that I can only imagine that there is a ton of moviegoers who had no idea when this film was coming out except for some time around Christmas.
Well, after watching the clips yesterday, I can only imagine that if the film is at least somewhat as funny as the clips are, then this has to be a funny movie.
Let's see what some of the early reviews think.
Fun with Dick and Jane Reviews
Though we would love to announce that Fun with Dick & Jane is convincing critics everywhere, that is just not the case. Being released to theatres under a curtain of mixed reviews, here is a little of what you can expect.
Now Playing (positive)
Then there’s the rare bird like Jim Carrey’s new movie, Fun With Dick and Jane. While not a savagely brilliant piece of work — it’s far more silly than intellectually shrewd, in fact — it’s still a movie that takes its cues very specifically from the decaying corporate culture of our post-Enron era, and to this end it produces a wide variety of laughs rooted in character as well as story and circumstance.

LA Times (negative)
"Fun With Dick & Jane" plays like the setup for a movie that never materializes. It has all the elements for a successful comedy, but once the premise is presented, the film doesn't know how to deliver on its promise. That doesn't mean there is no fun in "Fun." With gifted professionals like Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni in the starring roles, a script co-written by Judd Apatow ("The 40 Year-Old Virgin") and direction by Dean Parisot ("Galaxy Quest"), it would have to have amusing moments, and it does.
All is never completely lost with "Fun With Dick & Jane." Carrey and Leoni are gifted performers and work well off each other. Still, the film's overall frantic tone can't disguise the fact that the picture offers little delivery for all its buildup. Everyone involved with this production must have known there was a good movie somewhere, but no one's been quite able to find it.
