We have recently received an update from The Weinstein Company claiming that Hoodwinked! isn't the only CG animation they will be pushing this year. However, the upcoming animated film Doogal has an interesting history; or so we think.

Before we begin on the curious mystery behind Doogal, check out the first official synopsis sent over by The Weinstein Company.
Legend tells of three magic diamonds that, if in the wrong hands, can be united to create a force powerful enough to freeze the sun. When the evil sorcerer, Zeebad (Jon Stewart), escapes from his ancient prison, he vows to exact revenge by deep-freezing the earth forever.
Determined to save the world, a fellowship of four unlikely heroes band together to foil Zeebad’s villainous plot. Led by the candy-loving mutt Doogal (Kenan Thompson), friends Dylan (Jimmy Fallon), Brian (William H. Macy), and Ermintrude (Whoopi Goldberg) embark on an epic adventure to save the world. To find the diamonds before Zeebad, they must climb icy mountains, navigate fiery pits of molten lava, sail across vast oceans, and pass through a booby-trapped temple guarded by an army of ninja skeleton warriors.
Along the way they learn that their most powerful weapon is their friendship – which, even Zeebad’s evil magic cannot destroy.

We first encountered the design to Doogal when the film was titled The Magic Roundabout. When we had heard that The Weinstein Co. had picked up the animation's distribution rights we expected to see the movie we encountered in the first teaser trailer; a movie that featured the voices of Ian McKellen, Tom Baker, Jim Broadbent, Joanna Lumley, Kylie Minogue, Bill Nighy, Richard O'Brien, Robbie Williams and Ray Winstone. However, it turns out that the domestic version of this film will almost feature an entirely different cast of voices.
According to the latest trailer for Doogal (we are expecting a finalized version later), the voices we can expect to hear are Chevy Chase, Judy Dench, Jimmy Fallon, Whoopy Goldberg, William H. Macy, Ian McKellen, Kevin Smith and Jon Stewart.
Talk about a big change, but I guess that is what it takes to make it happen.
Doogal will come to theatres on February 24th. However, this date can possibly be changed.
