Julia Roberts in Closer
Though I figure I may get a lot of flak for this but I have never been all that big a fan of Julia Roberts. Sure, she may be a good actress, but hasn't anyone else figured out that she is the same exact character in every role-- Julia Roberts. Nobody else has caught on to this fact yet? I feel like I am taking crazy pills!
Sure, you could say that I am being a bit too hard but I have already tried to change my opinion and all I see when I see the actress in a film is Julia Roberts.
That being said, it turns out that Julia Roberts has not picked up another role since Ocean's Twelve. Therefore, it comes with great excitement (for some) that Julia Roberts is now considering her next role in
Charlie Wilson's War.
Roberts for Charlie Wilson's War
According to Variety, Julia Roberts has been working with Universal Pictures to star next to Tom Hanks in Charlie Wilson's War. If Roberts were to join the film she would re-team with director Mike Nichols, who she has already worked with on the scandalous film Closer.
Hanks, who you can see this year in the highly anticipated The Da Vinci Code, has already declared his involvement in Charlie Wilson's War and will play the role of Charlie Wilson, the rogue Texas congressman who oversaw the covert funding of the Afghan rebels in their battle against the Soviet Union.
Just because Julia Roberts has been missing since Ocean's Twelve, don't think she is only enjoying an extended vacation. Instead, Roberts needed the break from film in order to take care of her newly delivered twins. For Charlie Wilson's War, Roberts has been asked to play Joanne Herring, a big-haired and beautiful Texas socialite who influenced Wilson to support the rebel cause.
Based on the book by 60 Minutes producer George Crile, Charlie Wilson's War was scripted by Aaron Sorkin. With or without Roberts, production of War will begin later this year.
It is also reported that neither Roberts nor Nichols have started negotiations.
