After experiencing a major flop in Aeon Flux it looks like Charlize Theron is looking for a way to cool down a bit. Teaming up with Picturehouse and New Line Intl., Charlize Theron plans to produce and star in The Ice at the Bottom of the World.
Theron for The Ice at the Bottom of the World
According to Variety, production will begin later this year for The Ice at the Bottom of the World.
It looks like Theron may be a bit embarrassed about the over-hyped Aeon Flux and is ready to make a comeback to the likes of Monster. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that she has re-teamed up with
Picturehouse and it's head Bob Berney, the man who distributed the film that won Theron her 'Best Actress' Oscar.
Current negotiations has Picturehouse handling the distribution while New Line picks up the tab.
The Ice at the Bottom of the World takes place in the Chesapeake Bay, where a Navy captain reluctantly retires for health reasons. After years of neglecting his family while at sea, the grizzled veteran throws his dysfunctional family into chaos. Theron will play one of his daughters, who returns home a heroin addict and the single mother of a mixed-race child.
Seeing that the last time Theron paired up with Berney she appeared on film looking like someone who fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, we should expect to see her, uhh, more negative side once again. Hell, she is going to play a heroine addict; a position that opens up a bunch of possibilities for ugliness.
Theron and Bob Berney seem to get along well and both had extremely positive remarks to say about one another:
Theron: I know that Bob and I are creatively aligned and that together we will bring the story to the screen in a most potent way.
Berney: We had a great partnership on 'Monster.' She has the eye, the energy and a down-to-earth sensibility for knowing how hard to you have to work to make an independent film a success.
