'In the near future... hello, my name is Violet.' Sony Screem Gems has released the first movie trailer for the upcoming Kurt Wimmer film, Ultraviolet, today and it looks pretty damn Kurt Wimmer-ish; which is a great thing.
Having Equilibrium as one of my favorite films definitely aids in my appreciation of Ultraviolet and I especially dig how William Fichtner and the little boy Cameron Bright-- both from Equilibrium -- have returned for the film. Ok, ok, it also helps to have hottie Milla Jovovich running around in tight outfits kicking ass.
Ultraviolet Movie Trailer
I don't know if it is just me but did I see Violet do a bit of gunkata with a rifle? Sick! Gunkata is the fighting style Wimmer created for Equilibrium and it now looks like he is ready to use it again. However, instead of having Cleric John Preston (Christian Bale) kicking ass we now have a heroine named Violet.
Judging by the trailer for Ultraviolet it definitely looks like Wimmer is beginning to hone his craft and has added some much more advanced cinematography and shots than we had seen in Equilibrium. However, the landscapes still have the same digital feel witnessed in Equilibrium.
Is there anything else worth noting for the trailer? Of course! But there is so much shit going on that it would take me pages to talk about it all. However, what is up with the glass uniforms that these soldiers wear?
Ultraviolet
Set in the late 21st century, a subculture of humans have emerged who have been modified genetically by a vampire-like disease (Hemophagia), giving them enhanced speed, incredible stamina and acute intelligence, and as they are set apart from "normal" and "healthy" humans, the world is pushed to the brink of worldwide civil war (a war between humans and hemophages) aimed at the destruction of the "diseased" population. In the middle of this crossed-fire is - an infected woman - Ultraviolet (Jovovich), who finds herself protecting a nine-year-old boy who has been marked for death by the human government as he is believed to be a threat to humans.
