Richard Donner and I have always been close. The guy created a wonderful franchise in Lethal Weapon and has been behind the camera for other solid films including Maverick, Scrooged, The Goonies, Superman and Superman II. Obviously, this list isn't chronologically ordered.
However, then Donner had to go and ruin one of the best books I have ever read-- Timeline. The Michael Crichton book was so ready for an adaptation that I hoped somebody like Spielberg would sack up and pick it up. However, instead we got Donner and he missed the mark by a long shot on the film; I continue to cross my fingers that another director will take another try at it some day.
Well, it looks like Richard Donner has learned his lesson from Timeline and is now back at what he does best-- cop films that require two unlikely candidates to become friends.
It also looks like Donner was more comfortable with picking up ex-cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) and Mos Def for his upcoming film 16 Blocks.
16 Blocks Movie Trailer
Warner Bros. Pictures has recently released the first trailer for 16 Blocks over at BET and I have to admit that the trailer looks pretty Donner-solid; maybe I should raise the hype meter a bit. However, instead of police officers that are righteously protecting citizens we encounter a law precinct that is willing to assassinate a witness in order to cover up one of their own secrets. The only roadblock for the police unit is a low-respected cop named Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis).
16 Blocks
16 Blocks
16 Blocks is a character-driven action thriller that stars Bruce Willis as Jack Mosley, a broken down NY detective assigned to escort a petty criminal (Mos Def) from the precinct to the courthouse. The seemingly simple 16 block journey becomes a test of character for them when Jack's ex-partners attempt to stop them. It's the story of how two men change each other during a tense 110-minute struggle between life and death.
