The latest casting update is an interesting move by Sam Raimi for Spider-Man 3. In the original Spider-Man film we encounter a final battle between Peter Parker and Green Goblin on top of a bridge. Fans of the Spider-Man comics may have caught an error in this scene-- the replacement of the character Gwen Stacy with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst).
In the comicbooks Peter Parker's high school crush and first girlfriend was not Watson but rather Gwen Stacy. During a bridge battle between Spider-Man and Green Goblin it is Stacy who is kidnapped and stuck up on the bridge. However, unlike the film, things do not turn out well for Gwen and she dies as the events of the fight unfold.
This event causes Peter Parker to understand that harboring a relationship is extremely dangerous for any companion he should choose. This idea is apparent in the Spider-Man films with Parker trying to avoid a relationship with Watson and explains if villains were to discover his identity or his feelings for Mary Jane Watson they would attack her to get to him.
Though Gwen Stacy may have survived the first two films she may now finally meet her fate.
Bryce Dallas Howard for Spider-Man 3
According to THR, Bryce Dallas Howard is in negotiations to play the role of Gwen Stacy for Spider-Man 3. Bryce Dallas Howard is the red head most have come to know in M. Night Shyamalan's last film, The Village.
Will Gwen Stacy finally meet her doom after being introduced in the third installment to the film franchise? Even though Sam Raimi and crew have kept a tight lid on the film's production, they claim that her demise in Spider-Man 3 will NOT happen. Gwen Stacy's role for the upcoming Spider-Man film(s) is to create a love triangle between her, Parker and Mary Jane Watson. What, superheroes don't have the right to pull a menage tua?
