Only yesterday did THR confirm that Bryce Dallas Howard was going to play Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3 and now Variety is not only confirming the report but also claiming that Topher Grace will in face play Venom.

Just so I do not mis-quote what Variety had to say, check out a snippet from the Spidy article below:
Howard would join returning stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco, as well as new villains Thomas Haden Church, who'll reportedly play Sandman, and Topher Grace, who's aboard as Venom.
Though we do admit that there has been no official confirmation from Raimi or Columbia Pictures on which villain Topher Grace will become, we still must conclude that Venom is the most likely candidate; too many fingers are now pointing at that character.
Can we expect an official confirmation this month? I would say probably but I also said a confirmation was likely in September and we all know how that turned out.
