Back during early summer of 2005 George Lucas offered us a schedule that most moviegoers were proud of. We would have our first 3D Star Wars film by 2007, a live-action Star Wars television series in production within a year and a finished Indiana Jones 4 script by the end of 2005.
Since this summer there have been so many changes that nothing branded with 'Lucas' is close to schedule. The earliest we can expect the live-action series for Star Wars is 2008 and the script for Indy 4 is still not complete. At this rate we should not expect to see Harrison Ford swinging a whip again until 2007. And, if this is the case, don't count on any 3D Star Wars until later than that.
Indy 4 Script Developments
MTV recently caught up to George Lucas and got him to mention a few of the latest details on the hesitant script for Indiana Jones 4. Lucas mostly re-confirms that Jeff Nathanson is a great writer and that the script keeps getting more and more polished. Polish faster I say!
Harrison Ford's not getting any younger (and Karen Allen's not getting any more relevant), so fans can't help but wonder: When, exactly, are we going to see the long-promised fourth Indiana Jones movie? "We just keep working on it," shrugged series writer/producer George Lucas. "You know, we just write and write and write and write and write. But we are getting closer, and hopefully this year we will have a start date and we will have a script that we all love and hopefully it will come out next year." Lucas added that Jeff Nathanson ("Catch Me if You Can") is the newest addition to a pile of screenwriters bigger than the Cairo swordsman's weapon of choice. Ford has said that he will reprise his whip-wielding adventurer role for the first time since 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," and Steven Spielberg is making plans to direct.
Indiana Jones 4 did have an expected release date of summer 2006, a date which is obvioulsy going to be pushed far back. Hopefully with Steven Spielberg directing Indy 4 Lucas will find time to get his other projects finished as well.
