Abe Sapien
Though moviegoers are still waiting on the outcome of Guillermo del Toro's decision on whether he would like to helm the adaptation of Halo or get back to work on a Hellboy sequel, most forget that there is a Hellboy film series already in the making. Sure, it is not exactly live-action but it may be enough to hold the fans over for a while; 'a while' as in long enough for del Toro to get Halo out of the workshop.
Abe Sapien Appears Animated
The official blog for the 'Hellboy Animated Projects' has recently posted up the final draft of the character Abe Sapien.
Abe has a small role in the first [Hellboy] movie but is one of the investigating team in the second. He was one of the first characters to be explored by Cheeks. You can see that he made him a little more "contemporary" in feel than I was comfortable with. And I didn't think he should have to take time to strip down before diving into water. Sean went back into the design but we kept the feeling of body armor/flack vest and combined it with a wet suit. We toyed with the idea of putting BPRD on the back of the vest but in other countries the organization has a different name.
This final version [above] is by Greg Guler with some notes by Cheeks. The arm fins have been simplified for animation. His head is narrower, giving him a more streamlined, elegant feel. The color by Tracey Jones will be tweaked depending on the lighting of each sequence but this is basically the Abe you'll see on the screen.
The voice for the animated Abe Sapien will be done by Doug Jones, the same actor who played the character in the live-action Hellboy movie. However, it was not Doug's voice we heard in the film.
