I have a little secret that I figure might as well come out. HBO has been playing the crap out of The Phantom of the Opera starring Gerard Butler and I have now watched the film at least a dozen times. Obviously one of the biggest reasons I dig the film is that I can work with the music in the background but the other reason is that I dig the cast that makes up the film. Sure, there are some who may have complained about Butler's vocal range but the guy looks so damn cool playing the part of Phantom.

Butler was so money that I cannot wait to see him again in the upcoming adaptation of the graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300.

However, we can now get an early preview of Butler in the second video journal for the film.

300 Video Journal

The latest video journal released by Warner Bros for 300 first appeared over at SuperHeroHype along with the image above. The journal spends a majority of the time discussing the set pieces and the computer generated images that must go in to creating concepts sets as well as complete sets. The clip is pretty sweet as it shows off the main set for the film plus tons of shots captured in front of a bluescreen.

I did get over the 'rock' discussed after a while but it is still cool to see how the crew of 300 are using their set pieces efficiently.

Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy. The film brings Miller's (Sin City) acclaimed graphic novel to life by combining live action with virtual backgrounds that capture his distinct vision of this ancient historic tale.

You can watch the second video journal for 300 with Windows Media Player. For other resolutions visit the 300 Movie Page.

300 will come to theatres some time in 2006 or 2007 (TBA).

Stay tuned for updates.
