When we first heard there was going to be a sequel to Bruce Almighty we thought how cool it would be to see Carrey reprise his role. However, information quickly broke that Carrey would not be coming back at all (unless a cameo) and it would be anchorman Evan Baxter (aka Steve Carell) who would be picking up where Bruce left off. Hail Evan Almighty!
Since the casting had been confirmed any additional info on the sequel was non-existent. Fortunately, Steve Carell finally speaks up on his role and the story behind Evan.
Evan Almighty Talks
The good people over at Sci-Fi Wire have recently caught up with actor Steve Carell and got him to discuss his role as Evan in the upcoming film Evan Almighty. According to Carell, the film follows a different story and, if director Tom Shadyac gets his way, we can expect a whole Almight series with a new actor each time.
Morgan Freeman also returns as God in Evan Almighty, which isn't really a sequel. "It involves God coming to my character and instructing him to build an ark," Carell said. "And it sort of starts from there. ... I think it will be [hilarious]. I read the script, and it's really funny. ... He undergoes a learning curve, emotionally and spiritually, in the building of this ark."
According to the report, the script was written before Steve Carell was chosen to star.
"They'd had this script for a second one. And then he came up with the idea of basing it on my character from the first one. And came to me and offered it."
Morgan Freeman is already signed on to return as God.
