The Chronicles of Narnia Inside Narnia: A Guide to Exploring The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is one of those rare films where more hype for the pic was spawned weeks after its release. Sure, the box office numbers for the film didn't necessarily increase but the newly amped moviegoers were enough to cause Narnia to jump back ahead of the newer Peter Jackson release King Kong.

Even today we still receive emails about The Chronicles of Narnia and the latest developments on the upcoming sequel; upcoming as in give it a couple of years.

People just can't seem to get enough of the film and even the original story by CS Lewis.

Well, a while back we had received a copy of Inside Narnia: A Guide to Exploring The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by Devin Brown and have to admit that this book doesn't miss a single detail.

Actually, Devin Brown is so complete in his analysis that some fans of Narnia may soon become nauseous every time the imaginary land is suggested.

Devin Brown's Inside Look of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

The Chronicles of Narnia series has sold over 85 million copies worldwide and single-handedly introduced people of all ages to the central doctrines of Christianity.

Inside Narnia offers a close reading of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Tracing through the book chapter by chapter, Devin Brown explores the features of C. S. Lewis’s writing, supplies supplemental information on Lewis’s life and other books, offers comments and opinions from other Lewis scholars, and shows the work’s rich meanings.

“Although The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe can be simply read and enjoyed by a child, it also can be read seriously by adults because it is a work rich with meaning,” states Devin Brown. “Inside Narnia goes through each chapter of Lewis’s classic story, exploring the features of his book while also drawing connections to other works by Lewis, to the events of Lewis’s life, and to the work of other writers who influenced Lewis. [The most significant of these other writers is J. R. R. Tolkien, who not only greatly influenced Lewis but also was greatly influenced by him.] I believe by reading through Inside Narnia, it will result in greater enjoyment of an already enjoyable book.”

Don King, author of the book, C. S. Lewis, Poet, states, “Inside Narnia is unique since it is the first full-length literary study of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. As such it is a thorough, well-researched, and articulate exploration of Lewis as a writer, noting in particular what may be called the 'internal world' of Lewis' creativity. That is, Devin Brown offers readers a detailed and delightful look at what influenced Lewis' writing of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe -including borrowings, parallels, and allusions-as well as a wonderful discussion of how ideas, motifs, characters, and events in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe are inter-related to the other six Narnia books. Equally helpful is the way Brown moves easily between the worlds of Narnia and J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, suggesting along the way how Lewis and Tolkien, who read their stories out loud to each other as they were writing them, may have influenced the other's imaginary world. In brief, Inside Narnia should be on the shelf of all serious devotees of the Chronicles of Narnia.”

Inside Narnia is like taking a personal class on C. S. Lewis and his book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Designed as a running commentary of Lewis’s classic story, Devin Brown encourages you to read the classic story in conjunction with Inside Narnia. He has even corresponded his chapters with that of Lewis’s book so as to help guide you along your journey into this magical tale.

“C. S. Lewis said, ‘Let us suppose that this everyday world were, at some point, invaded by the marvelous.’ More than fifty years after it was first published, readers from all over the world, young and old, continue to share the perception that as they read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, their everyday world truly is invaded by the marvelous,” states Brown.

Insightful and thorough, Inside Narnia will dig deeper into Lewis’s magical world to reveal biblical truths that often go uncovered. Fans of C. S. Lewis and those who will meet him through the upcoming film release will want to read to this book.

Devin Brown has been writing and speaking about C. S. Lewis for over ten years. He is a professor of English at Asbury College, where he teaches a class on C. S. Lewis’s fiction. He and his wife live in Lexington, Kentucky
