Since remakes are the next best thing behind sequels of late, Warner Bros thought why not add another to the wagon with Gaslight
Gaslight Remake Warming Up
According to Variety, Warner Bros plans to do a remake of the 1944 thriller Gaslight with director Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice) making his U.S. directing debut.
Based on a 1938 British play by Patrick Hamilton and preceded by a 1940 British film, Gaslight was able to grab seven Oscar nominations for MGM. It also introduced the film's title into the vernacular, as the act of "gaslighting" someone means to drive them insane.
The story of Gaslight revolves around a woman whose suitor has designs on her money, and after luring her to a house of horrors, he methodically tries to convince her she is insane.
Abi Morgan is set to write the screenplay for the remake of Gaslight with Paula Weinstein to produce.
Paula Weinstein is currently the producer of the upcoming film Blood Diamond filming in South Africa and starring Leonardo Dicaprio.
