Sometimes all you want to do is win an award for something even though it may be considered 'bad.' Well, it turns out that there are still ribbons and trophies made for those who come behind 10th place and the number one spot to get them in Hollywood is at the 26th Annual Razzie Awards.

Razzie Awards for 2005

I think there will be many who will be somewhat surprised by one of the choices for worst film of 2005; but the rest of the pictures selected seem right on.

Among the most dis-honored titles nominated for The 26th Annual RAZZIES are: The Dukes Of Hazzard, which took the Hollywood habit of exhuming old TV series to new lows in lowbrow entertainment; Son of the Mask, an 11-years-later sequel sans the star of the original film (or any of its charm); House of Wax, a horror remake whose most horrifying element was the "dramatic debut" of hotel heiress (and Worst Supporting Actress nominee) Paris Hilton; Dirty Love, a vanity project written by and starring a Playboy Playmate, with a total box office take of barely $58,000; and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, a "comedy" sequel that no one but its star and producers seemed to find funny. Each of these five is a Worst Picture nominee and, in a RAZZIE first which points out Hollywood's total creative bankruptcy in 2005, four of them are also Worst Remake or Sequel nominees. The fifth contender for Worst Remake is the five-times-nominated Bewitched, yet another old TV show "re-imagined" (and ruined) on its way to the big screen. Worst Actor contenders include Will Ferrell for both Bewitched and Kicking & Screaming, Jamie Kennedy in Son of the Mask, Rob Schneider in the title role of Deuce Bigalow 2, The Rock in the video-game-to-movie adaptation Doom and box office behemoth Tom Cruise for War of the Worlds. Vying for dis-stink-tion as Worst Actress are vacuous vava-voom girl Jessica Alba in both Fantastic Four and Into the Blue, talent-challenged teen idol Hilary Duff in Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and The Perfect Man, Jenny McCarthy for Worst Picture nominee Dirty Love, Tara Reid as a "genius anthropologist"(!) in Alone in the Dark and RAZZIE Repeat Offender Jennifer Lopez as a beleaguered bride-to-be in Monster in Law.

Nominees were determined by mailing ballots to more than 725 film professionals, film journalists and film fans from 41 U.S. states and 15 foreign countries. Often called Tinsel Town's tackiest Trophy, the RAZZIE Award itself is an intentionally cheapjack tchotchke featuring a golf-ball-sized, handcrafted RAZZberry atop a mangled Super 8 film reel that's spray-painted gold and has an estimated street value of $4.97.

The RAZZIES were created in 1980 by John Wilson, author of The Official RAZZIE® Movie Guide. This year's RAZZIE ceremonies will be held the now-traditional 24 hours BEFORE That Other Award Show: 7:30pm PST, Saturday, March 4 at the historic Ivar Theatre in Hollywood.
