Add another to the growing cast of Spider-Man 3. Over the last two weeks Sam Raimi has brought on Bryce Dallas Howard to play Gwen Stacy (here) and then Theresa Russell to play Mrs. Marko (here).
With the addition of Howard as Gwen Stacy we figured we should count on the character's father, Captain Stacy, to make an appearance as well.
And now it looks like James Cromwell is our man for the job.

According to THR, James Cromwell has been picked up by Columbia Pictures to play Captain Stacy, the father of Bryce Dallas Howard's character in Spider-Man 3.
The addition of Captain George Stacy further confirms that the films are going to be a bit different than the comics they are based upon.
In the comic books Captain George Stacy worked for the NYPD and was not only a strong supporter of Spider-Man but of Peter Parker's relationship with Gwen Stacy. Gwen Stacy was the first love of Peter's; not Mary Jane as the films suggest.
However, the relationship between Peter and Gwen gets destroyed when Captain Stacy is accidentally killed during a fight between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus.
In his dying wish, Stacy tells Spider-Man to take care of his daughter; Stacy knew that Parker was the man behind the mask.
Unfortunately, Gwen Stacy later dies during the bridge battle between Spider-Man and Green Goblin; the same scene we encountered in the original movie.
Since it has been said that Gwen Stacy will survive Spider-Man 3, I am going to guess that her father, Captain Stacy, will die near the end of the film; an event that will end the love triangle between Parker, Jane and Stacy.
