The Thief of Always The Thief of Always
Back in 2004 directors Andrew Adamson and Kelly Asbury teamed up to direct the Dreamworks CG animation Shrek 2. The film was a box office smash and many have found it to rival the original.

As most know, Andrew Adamson had a glorious transition to live-action films with his first break-out success The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. With box office numbers that wouldn't slow, Adamson's film proved that the best directors can handle whatever film medium they lay their hands on.

Taking a que from Adamson, it is now Kelly Asbury's turn to bat with his very own The Thief of Always.

Asbury to Direct The Thief of Always

According to a THR, Shrek 2 co-helmer Kelly Asbury will be the next computer-animation director to make the leap into live action film. Having written the screenplay adaptation of Clive Barker's The Thief of Always, Asbury has also positioned himself to direct the film for 20th Century Fox.

Asbury was introduced to Thief after being coincidentally sat next to Clive Barker at an authors festival thanks to their last names; the seating was done alphabetically. The two hit it off and Barker immediately asked Asbury whether he'd be interested in writing a screenplay for and directing The Thief of Always.

The story centers on a 10-year-old boy who is bored with his ordinary life and ventures into a supernatural house in which all four seasons pass in one day. Like almost every live-action fantasy film created today, the fantasy elements of the movie will be enhanced with CGI effects; ILM and Weta are both waiting by their receivers.

"I've worked for a long time in the storyboard process," Asbury said. "My experience on 'Thief' so far has been charmed because the story gets better with each iteration. We've all been really happy with the consensus of ideas and notes on the script."

Clive Barker has been trying to get a film made on Thief since the early 90's.

Besides Shrek 2, Kelly Asbury has also contributed to animations such as The Little Mermaid and Toy Story.

Stay tuned for updates.
