With their recent bonus in funding, The Weinstein Co. continues to gobble up films for North American release. After a couple misses (Derailed) and a few surprises (Hoodwinked!), the new studio is beginning to show signs that it is leaning towards family-oriented comedies.
For instance, it was announced today that The Weinstein Co. has picked up a non-raunchy romantic comedy titled Lovewrecked.
Weinstein is Lovewrecked
According to a THR, The Weinstein Co. has signed a contract for the North American rights to Randal Kleiser's family-oriented romantic comedy Lovewrecked.
After the box office success of Wedding Crashers most figured we would have a slew of new raunchy comedies coming our way for 2006. However, it seems like Hollywood has shifted back into the more comfortable family comedies.
Lovewrecked centers on a teen (Amanda Bynes) who is thrown off a cruise ship with her favorite rock star (Chris Carmack). After the two wash up on a "deserted island," she hides the fact that the resort where she works is just a stone's throw away.
The cast of Lovewrecked also features Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Jonathan Bennett .
The entire film was shot in the Dominican Republic and was produced by Joe Anderson, Wendy Thorlakson and Sammy Lee.
Though I am happy to hear that The Weinstein Co. may have found another niche for their rookie company, I am still holding out for the next crashers.
Can The Break-Up get me to the place I need to go?
