With filming for Spider-Man 3 underway we have recently been alerted to a scoop thanks to our good friend 'RonJon'.
According to the report, some early filming had begun a while ago in a LA Landmark.

According to a column at lovetripper, some early filming occurred at the LA Landmark Alexandria Hotel.

When comic book fans line up to see Tobey Maguire portray web-slinger Peter Parker in the upcoming third installment of the "Spider-man" franchise they will notice Alexandria Hotel as one of the movie's filming locales. Scenes were recently shot at this turn-of-the century Los Angeles landmark, which is rumored to harbor the spirit of the "lady in black."
No, 'lady in black' is not some type of euphemism for Venom... dreamers.
The column was posted on December 21st, early enough to make me guess that no substantial scenes were shot there; at least, not a battle.
