After watching both trailers for the upcoming remake The Pink Panther starring Steve Martin, Jean Reno, Kevin Kline and Beyoncé Knowles, most had a feeling that the film was not going to be hailed by the critics.
And, with our first set of early reviews for the film, the critics have begun to question a remake in the first place.
Pink Panther Reviews
The first movie reviews have begun to appear for The Pink Panther online and they aren't exactly positive. However, the reviews don't necessarily bash the film either; something most would have expected after the long delays and beyond-silly media campaigns.
Variety
Finally unleashed after multiple delays, "The Pink Panther" is neither the disaster one might have suspected nor a fully realized madcap farce; rather, Steve MartinSteve Martin's foray as Inspector Clouseau exhibits bursts of wild-and-craziness, but hardly enough to sustain even its relatively brief running time. The result is a feature-length "Saturday Night Live" sketch, with arid stretches interrupted by moments of irresistible silliness. The real question is whom this juvenile revival will attract, given that the franchise would seem to possess little resonance among modern youths -- its most likely audience -- beyond Henry Mancini's marvelously playful original score.
TheHollywoodReporter
Even with the inspired choice of Steve Martin in the Clouseau role, this "Panther" picture is more bumbling and fumbling than the blissfully oblivious, accident-prone Inspector.
The painfully unfunny results -- a couple of exceptions, like the "hamburger" bit, have already begun to lose their comic luster thanks to all the advance advertising -- likely won't have audiences tickled pink.
Not the best start for The Pink Panther, but we will try to find a couple positive reviews to post for tomorrow.
The Pink Panther comes to theatres this Friday, February 10th.
