When Pixar came out with Toy Story back in 1995 they were credited with starting a new age of animation. Featuring enough laughs for kids plus a few inside lines for adults, Toy Story was a hit and brought in a total domestic box office of just under $200 million.
Ready to capitalize on that success, Disney/Pixar soon went to work on a sequel and again struck box office gold with Toy Story 2; just under $250 million in domestic ticket sales.
Take in to account some ticket inflation and any moviegoer can at least understand while Disney first wanted to give the franchise another go. However, right in the middle of the Pixar/Disney scramble, Disney announced that Toy Story 3 was going to be scrapped; even though production on the film had already began.
However, now that Pixar has some strength on the Disney board, they picture house has decided to take it upon themselves (thank goodness) and finish, or should I say overhaul, another sequel.
Green for Toy Story 3
According to a financial analysis report over at Bloomberg, Pixar announced that they will move forward and grab the reigns on Toy Story 3.
Iger said Disney would release about two Pixar films each year, an increase over Pixar's earlier goal of about one per year. Pixar will take over production of ``Toy Story 3,'' a sequel that Disney's in-house animators had been working on, Iger said.
Since I have enjoyed the sequels to CG animated films even better than the originals (which are also great), I say bring it on!
