It was only two weeks ago when Jim Henson Co. announced that they were moving forward with a sequel to The Dark Crystal titled The Power of the Dark Crystal.
Upon the report I immediately whined and tried to find my 'blankee.' (report HERE)
Now that production is underway the studio has already released a couple preview images from the film.
Power of the Dark Crystal Pictures
During a report on Power of the Dark Crystal by muppetcentral, the site decided to take the cake by showing off two of the first images from the film.
To our right is the first image of one of the new characters named Queen Kira.
I know, I know... don't say it... she is pretty smoking hot... for a muppet queen.
According to award-winning animation director Genndy Tartakovsky, The Power of the Dark Crystal will be significantly different than the original film. Besides the fact that the film takes place long after the original Dark Crystal, it will also be lacking the extravagent, and expensive, sets featured in the first film. Instead, Tartakovsky mentions that the backdrops will all be CG in a similar fashion to Sin City.
Set hundreds of years after the events of the first movie when the world has once again fallen into darkness, Power of the Dark Crystal follows the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who, together with a Gelfling outcast, steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet.
