On February 15th the Associated Press sat down with Avi Arad and discussed the possibility of an adaptation of Captain America.
In response, Arad explained that a script for Captain America was in the works but felt he did not need to go into any further details at that point in time.
If there is a script in the works, who is the person behind the pen?
Only a few days after the initial report, IGN was able to expose the secret identity of the man behind the upcoming script for Captain America.
Captain America Teams with David Self
According to IGN, Marvel decided to go with a new name for the screenplay of Captain America by picking up David Self. The writer is credited with the adaptation of the novel Road to Perdition and the script for Thirteen Days.
Besides those two previously-released films, David Self has already worked on two scripts for Marvel including The Sub-Mariner, which Avi Arad supposedly loves, and Deathlok.
Marvel usually draws on the same stable of screenwriters for its projects, such as David Goyer, Zak Penn, Simon Kinberg and David Hayter. Another of these Marvel veterans is the scribe writing Captain America: David Self.
Self has worked on two other Marvel projects, The Sub-Mariner (a script that Arad has long raved about) and Deathlok.
Though the script is underway Avi Arad warns not to expect a movie to enter into production in the near future.
Arad said last June, "This script is going to take a little bit of time, because it has to be a masterpiece. It's Back to the Future kind of stuff."
