Scanner Darkly Trailer
The new trailer for A Scanner Darkly looks freakin' unbelievable. Having read the book by Phillip K. Dick I had always wondered how Richard Linklater (director) was going to transfer some of the darker aspects of the story to the animation. The trailer proves that Linklater has done so with a marvelous effect as it still leaves more to be craved.
We should assume that Linklater's other film that uses interpolated rotoscoping, Waking Life, should get a ton more attention once Scanner hits theatres.
A Scanner Darkly is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode. It is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K. Dick and his own experiences.
If you are still wondering what is so interesting about today's date and the release of the full trailer for A Scanner Darkly we will need to go into the time capsule. Today is February 20th, 2006. Exactly one year ago (February 20th, 2005) we were raving about the release of the teaser trailer for A Scanner Darkly (here). This film has been teasing with us for over a year now; come to theatres already!
