I don't know if it is just me but I have always had my reservations towards films with titles like Save the Last Dance, Bring it On, 'Get Your Groove Back' and so on. Therefore, when I first heard about Take the Lead starring Antonio Banderas I could only go into the trailer with some doubts.
Take the Lead Movie Poster & Trailer
Inspired by a true story, Antonio Banderas stars as internationally acclaimed ballroom dancer Pierre Dulane in the family drama Take the Lead. The film revolves around a professional dancer who volunteers to teach in the New York City public school system. But when his classic methods clash with his students' hip hop instincts, he teams up with them to create a new style of dance and becomes their mentor in the process. Take the Lead marks the feature directing debut of veteran music video helmer Liz Friedlander (U2, Blink 182, Simple Plan).
The trailer for Take the Lead is, well, interesting. The ballroom dance choreography looks great but then there are some awkward cuts to a gun, a fight, a guy smashing a windshield and Banderas with a hat on sideways.
Take the Lead
Though Take the Lead does look better than the ordinary teenie-bopper fanfare, I am going to need at least a few movie clips or another trailer before I can decide which way this film is really going.
