Video game adaptations have reached a whole new level. Or would we call this a video game based on the movie?
Either way, Vin Diesel and Paramount have picked up Midway's The Wheelman with Diesel to star.
The Wheelman Finds Diesel
According to Variety, MTV Films and Paramount are developing Midway Games' The Wheelman into a feature film.
Now, there is a large chance that you have not heard of The Wheelman considering the game doesn't even exist yet. Instead, Paramount, Midway Games and Vin Diesel plan to release the movie and the game at the same time; leaving us with one major question-- can we even call the film an adaptation anymore?
Vin Diesel plans to star in and produce both the movie and the game.
The Wheelman is an action-adventure title about an expert driver who comes out of retirement to protect a woman from his past.
Paramount and MTV Films bought the film rights for The Wheelman from Midway. The game is already well into development for the next generation consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The budget for the game is believed to be north of $15 million -- on the high end for videogames.
The game and the film are targeted for a late 2007 release.
Vin Diesel will play Agent 47 in another popular video game adaptation titled Hitman.
