James Cameron with Bill Paxton in Ghosts of the Abyss.
James Cameron loves the water. The director first tested his skills in the ocean depths with The Abyss. After doing so the director created a string of great films including Terminator 2 and True Lies. But then he was back in the water with Titanic; something that has given Cameron a hard-on for liquid ever since.
Since Titanic, Cameron has done water-involving films such as Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens in the Deep. Ghosts was a way to touch on Titanic while Aliens in the Deep was a way for Cameron to further test out evolving 3D technology.
Cameron has recently made an appearance in HBO's Entourage, where he plays himself as the director of another water-film-- Aquaman.
Now, if only to top things off, James Cameron has announced another water-involving project titled The Dive.
James Cameron to Direct The Dive
According to Variety, James Cameron has joined with Laeta Kalogridis to write The Dive, the true, tragic love story of freediver Francisco "Pipin" Ferraras and his wife Audrey Mestre.
Cameron is already working with Laeta Kalogridis on the script of Battle Angel.
Though the project has been announced, Cameron has made assurances that The Dive is still scheduled behind other projects including the now-infamous Project 880. What some have assumed to be Aquaman, Avator or Battle Angel, Project 880 remains at the top of Cameron's list.
The Dive, which would begin after Project 880, will tell the story of two pre-eminent free-divers who, with but a breath of air in their lungs, plunged to unimaginable depths before swimming back to the surface. She died during an attempt to better her world record to 557.7 feet.
The Dive popped on Cameron's sonar after reading the Sports Illustrated cover story by Gary Smith.
Lightstorm bought rights to that article, "The Deadly Dive," as well as rights to a subsequent book by Smith and an autobiography by Ferraras.
