The surprise trailer for The Fountain began and ended with most viewers feeling left in the dark. That sort of response was to be expected, since Warner Bros has left just about everybody in the dark for this upcoming film. The trailer was impressive, showed off the three periods touched upon in the story (past, present, future), and gave a few more previews of Hugh Jackman over Rachel Weisz. Though I dug the cinematography, there was no way anybody could have picked up the story without the aid of a synopsis.
After the release of the trailer we figured Warner Bros would get their marketing machine cranking and begin doing the first thing Warner Bros loves to do with highly anticipated films-- release tons of different posters. However, we have yet to receive any additional material on the film and are still hoping for a specific release date; '2006' gets old real quick.
The Fountain Movie Stills
Fortunately, the good people over at LatinoReview have somehow gotten their hands on what looks to be the first batch of movie stills to hit the net.
The Fountain is an odyssey about one man's thousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves. His epic journey begins in 16th century Spain, where conquistador Tomas Creo (Hugh Jackman) commences his search for the Tree of Life, the legendary entity believed to grant eternal life to those who drink of its sap. As modern-day scientist Tommy Creo, he desperately struggles to find a cure for the cancer that is killing his beloved wife Isabel (Rachel Weisz). Traveling through deep space as a 26th century astronaut, Tom begins to grasp the mysteries of life that have consumed him for more than a century.
