The Sparrow The Sparrow
Brad Pitt could become quite the busy bee. With a 2006-2007 lineup that includes Babel, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Chad Schmidt, Benjamin Button and the likely Ocean's Thirteen, we were glad to hear that Pitt was ready to take on a little more.

Teaming up with Warner Bros, Pitt and company will adapt the sci-fi novel The Sparrow.

And, yes, chalk up one more adaptation to the growing list of adaptations coming our way over the next few years.

Pitt Adapts The Sparrow

According to Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired the rights to sci-fi book The Sparrow for Brad Pitt's Plan B and Industry Entertainment to produce. Brad Pitt has had interest in the project for some time and it is predicted that he will also star in the film.

The project was originally at Universal, but the studio later allowed Warner Bros picked up the rights to the adaptation.

The screenplay for The Sparrow will be penned by Scribe Michael Seitzman (North Country), based off of the book written by Mary Doria Russell.

The story revolves around a Jesuit priest who accompanies a crew of space travelers to a distant planet after Earth receives its first communication from an alien culture. The clergyman and crew befriend one of the planet's two races, unwittingly provoking a bloody war and shaking the foundations of the priest's faith.

Producers are Pitt, Industry Entertainment's Nick Wechsler and Brillstein-Grey's Cynthia Pett-Dante, Pitt's manager, who were all attached when the project was at Universal.

Warner Bros also took the adaptation of The Watchmen off the hands of Paramount some time back. Though the move gave the project new life, it still remains director-less.

Stay tuned for updates.
