Count Olaf [Jim Carrey] working to create the perfect family.
As most should have been able to guess, Meet
the Fockers was the hot ticket for the week of Christmas.
Actually, Meet the Fockers, which I first thought only looked OK,
was a damn hot ticket. The film made a little under 70 million for its first
five days running! While this doesn't compare to last year's Christmas week
[ala LOTR: ROTK], Meet the Fockers still did damn good.
Fockers Pounces Lemony Snickets
Lemony Snicket's
may have been the reigning champion for weekend gross, the film quickly
got demolished by Meet the Fockers. First off, even though a lot
of people thought this film looked a little silly and cheap, Meet the
Fockers was still the most popular film on CanMag.Com. It is ranked
higher than Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith! I couldn't believe
this statistic and was amazingly confirmed by the box office numbers.
I have also seen Meet the Fockers and have to say that this film
is pretty dang funny, about just as good as the original. Check out my Meet
the Fockers Movie Review for more movie info.
Aviator STarts Small
Even though The Aviator, starring DiCaprio, has oscar buzz all
over it, it only faired with only sub-par numbers for its opening weekend.
However, The Aviator only witnessed a limited release and should
continue to have a steady growth in ticket sales.
Meet the Fockers Takes the Weekend Gross
As stated above, Meet the Fockers was the number one film for this
weekend with a gross of $44.7 million. The reason for the success of this
film can be found for one main reason: Ben Stiller in a sequel to a hilarious
original.
