Brad Bird accepting the Academy Award for The Incredibles
Though he had a couple previous projects before it including The Simpsons, Brad Bird broke onto the scene with his feature animated film Iron Giant. Seizing the talent of the up and coming director, Pixar was able to quickly catch Bird to direct The Incredibles.
With the release of The Incredibles to theatres Bird further proved what an asset he was for the computer-generated medium. Pixar has held on to Brad Bird by leaving the director to helm the sequel to The Incredibles. However, it now looks like Bird's role in Pixar will become even greater.
Bird to Direct Ratatouille
Ratatouille, a CG animated film from Pixar that tells the story of a skinny rodent who fancies himself a gourmand and lives in a Parisian restaurant, has recently had a major overhaul. The film has been in production for some time under Oscar-winning short-film director Jan Pinkava (Geri's Game) who was also set to direct.
However, according to THR, John Lasseter recently showed a sneak peek of Ratatouille to attendees and shareholders present at a meeting called by Pixar last Friday. During the meeting Pixar announced that Brad Bird would be stepping into the director's chair for Ratatouille after being developed in house by Pinkava.
It was previously rumored that Ratatouille was encountering problems when Bird was called to the production to consult Jan Pinkava. It now looks like consultation wasn't enough to correct whatever problems Pixar was facing and the picture house decided to replace Pinkava entirely.
The film's planned release date, June 29, 2007, has not been pushed back because of the changes and we can still expect a teaser trailer for Ratatouille to be attached with Cars.
We still do not know what this means for the production of The Incredibles sequel; is a delay now in order?
