When we were first told that Gary Oldman was still in negotiations to reprise his role as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix we tried not to panic. However, when rumors began to spread on the net that there was a possibility that Gary Oldman would not return I immediately threw up all over my chest; how is that for not overreacting!
Considering that Sirius Black has a much larger role in Order of the Phoenix I found myself scratching my head on what reason there could be that would stop Oldman from doing the film.
Fortunately, we have finally received word that Gary Oldman WILL return to the Harry Potter franchise as Harry's misunderstood Godfather.
Order of the Phoenix Gets Gary Oldman
The first confirmation on Gary Oldman came from Gary Oldman's manager, Doug Urbanski, who told GaryOldman.info.
GARY OLDMAN IS NOW SET TO PLAY SIRIUS BLACK IN THE ORDER OF THE PHEONIX. A DEAL WAS CONCLUDED THIS MORNING.
Sounds great! But what's with the all-caps? I mean come on!
The report was later reconfirmed by hpana, who had a bit more of the details direct from Urbanski.
"I'm so relieved and happy," said Urbanski. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."
Urbanski said he was baffled by the months-long silence from Warner Bros. There were other jobs on offer to Oldman, and he was very close to taking one.
"Since they had no option for Gary on this film, he was a free agent. Last week, we told them that Gary had another movie, and it was just a question of doing a deal," he said.
You're relieved? Hundreds of millions of young wizards and witches can now finally catch their breath! Ok, ok, but magic is all about the exaggeration.
All kidding aside, we are very glad and relieved to hear the news.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released in 2007.
