Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions
Back in my college years at UC Santa Barbara I spent my fifth year in the entrepreneur program. Through that program I met a lot of cool, and rich, people who had made it one way or another. Along the way I had a TA who knew of a certain group of M.I.T. students who followed a single rule-- "Blackjack is beatable." Though you would expect this line to be a serious cry for help from someone with a gambling problem, in the case of the M.I.T. students this fact was true and plausible.
Following the card-counting techniques popularized by Edward Thorp back in the 1960s, the six M.I.T. students learned that six math geniuses were always better than a single card counter. Combining their brains, and their counting skills, the crew was able to take millions from Vegas.
After being driven out of Vegas the young masterminds' story has been long remembered in Ben Mezrich's Bringing Down the House and now an upcoming film appropriately titled 21.
Luketic to Direct 21
According to THR, Robert Luketic is in negotiations to direct 21 for Columbia Pictures. 21, based on the novel Bringing Down the House, will tell the story of the six kids that took Vegas.
Robert Luketic has directed films such as Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, Legally Blonde and Monster-in-Law.
Luketic has been involved with 20th Century Fox for the upcoming project titled Dallas. It is still unknown how the negotiations with Columbia Pictures may affect the director's involvement on that project.
Stay tuned for updates.
